55x40x20CM CARRY ON

Ryanair Overhead Cabin Baggage

Ryanair's overhead baggage allowance permits one piece of hand luggage measuring up to 55x40x20cm. This is a paid upgrade, available as part of Priority boarding or an add-on to your booking, and it allows you to store your bag in the overhead cabin rather than under the seat.

This size gives you considerably more packing space than the free personal item, making it the go-to option for longer trips or anyone who wants to travel carry-on only without checking a bag. Our cabin cases in this size range are designed to sit within these maximum dimensions while maximising internal capacity.

Ryanair Cabin Baggage FAQs

  • Ryanair allows one free personal item measuring up to 40x30x20cm. This must fit under the seat in front of you. No weight limit applies to the free bag.

  • Ryanair does not charge for their standard underseat cabin bag (40x30x20cm) but they do charge for a full-size cabin bag (55x40x20cm) which is only allowed free of charge if you have a Priority or Plus fare. Otherwise, you will need to pay to add it at checkout.

  • Yes, as long as it fits within the 40x30x20cm dimensions and fits under the seat in front of you, a backpack counts as your free personal item.

  • If your bag exceeds the allowed dimensions, Ryanair staff may require you to check it in at the gate, which typically costs significantly more than pre-paying for hold luggage.

  • Ryanair does not weigh the free underseat bag, but the priority cabin bag must not exceed 10kg. Staff can ask to weigh it at the gate.

  • Only if you have priority boarding. Priority passengers can bring one cabin bag (55x40x20cm) plus one underseat bag (40x30x20cm). Standard fare passengers are limited to the underseat bag only.
